Synergistic Design, Asymmetric Triangles and Underwater Design by Marilyn Shore

synergistic designs...

meaning...acting together in a creative /innovative way.

A CREATIVE DESIGN.....Creative or abstract designs have few rules and no set patterns, yet show restraint in in the amount of plant material and number of components used.
Containers are almost always non traditional. Spatial relationships play a major role in Creative designs. Space is incorporated into the design.

Synergistic designs are made up of at least 3 parts of groupings.

Plant material and containers share common characteristics and create an artistic whole when used in combination.

Taken as a whole these designs have greater impact than each one separately.

THE ASYMMETRIC TRIANGLE A CLASSIC DESIGN .
IT IS USUALLY PLACED ON ONE SIDE OF A PIECE OF FURNITURE TO BALANCE AN ORNAMENT Or a LAMP.
THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THIS DESIGN ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE CENTRAL AXIS.

YOU WILL NEED:
A LOW DISH OR BOWL....not modern.
OASIS
LINE MATERIAL...THE TALLEST STEM WHICH WILL ESTABLISH THE HEIGHT , SHOULD HAVE A GENTLE CURVE...ie.... EUCALYPTUS. ROUND LEAVES
ROUND FLOWERS
SPRAY MATERIAL

CREATING THE DESIGN
1. PLACE THE LONGEST CURVED STEM (A) IN THE TOP OF THE OASIS, TWO THIRDS OF THE WAY BACK AND SLIGHTLY TO THE SIDE. ANGLE THE STEM SO THAT THE TIP IS APPROXIMATELY WHERE THE STEM ENTERS THE OASIS. DON’T ALLOW THE TIP TO GO BEYOND THE CENTRE OF THE OASIS OR IT WILL LOOK AS THOUGH IT IS FALLING OVER.
2.PLACE THE SHORTEST STEM (B) ONE THIRD THE LENGTH OF THE LONG STEM OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE LONG STEM ANGLED DOWNWARDS OVER THE RIM OF THE CONTAINER AND AWAY FROM STEM (A).
3.PLACE THE MIDDLE STEM (C)HALF TO TWO THIRDS THE LENGHT OF (A) OUT OF THE SIDE OF THE FOAM AND SLIGHTLY FORWARDS. YOU HAVE NOW FORMED A TRIANGLE....(ABC)
THE SMALL TRIANGLE WILL CONTAIN YOUR HEAVIER MATERIAL WHILE TRIANGLE (AC) WILL CONTAIN THE FINER MATERIAL AND INCORPORATE MORE SPACE.
4. USE LARGER LEAVES TO COVER THE MECHANICS PARTICULARLY IN THE SMALLER TRIANGLE....TO GIVE WEIGHT AND STRENGTH TO THAT PART OF THE DESIGN.
REMEMBER THAT ALL STEMS SHOULD APPEAR TO RADIATE FROM THE CENTRAL POINT.
5. REINFORCE THE OULINE WITH LINE FLOWERS. DO NOT PLACE THEM TOO CLOSE TO THE BOUNDARY OF THE TRIANGLE BUT POSITION THEM AT DIFFERENT ANGLES.
6. USE ROUND FLOWERS TO CREATE THE AREA OF STRONGEST INTEREST. FOR GOOD BALANCE THIS IS LOCATED AROUND THE BASE OF THE TALLEST STEM, ABOUT TWO THIRDS OF THE WAY DOWN. THIS AREA WILL THEREFORE BE OFF CENTRE.
7. USE SPRAY MATERIAL TO COMPLETE THE DESIGN.
